These DIY Father’s Day Cards were inspired by a mending plate. On the House describes a mending plate is as a metal connector that is used to help strengthen joints in wooden furniture, shelves, frames and other household connections. It reinforces the pieces together. They come in different shapes and sizes to suit the needs of the shape, and materials you need to mend together.
I thought in some strange way this is a nice metaphor for what a Father is. Growing up, at least in my generation, Father’s, Uncles, and Grandfather’s were the go to person to help mend things or fix things up around the house. We are two grown adults andΒ I’ve lost track of the amount of times my Father-in-Law has come over to help us with everything around the house, and our cars. Let alone how much Father’s fix outside of just the physical components of a home.
Because I look for any excuse to use my TEKTON metal stamp set, I came up with this idea for a Father’s Day card craft for this year. Here is how you can make your own!
DIY FATHER’S DAY CARDS
SUPPLIES NEEDED:
- TEKTON metal stamp set
- Hammer
- Mending Plates
- Brads (aka Paper Fasteners) in the shapes of screw heads
- Kraft card stock
STEP 1
Stamp your mending plates with Dad, Grandpa or the name of your choice.
STEP 2
Fasten your stamped mending plate onto your kraft card stock.
Inside I wrote “Thanks for always being our family’s mending plate”.
That’s it! Your DIY Father’s Day Cards!
My Dad is an Engineer and my Father in Law is a Mechanic. So the cards work for both of them. As for my husband, well, none of the projects on here that start as a “Hey we should make…” in my head could ever come to life without him. He’s the most wonderful father and husband a girl could ask for.
I have a lot of Card Crafts on this site, like our Mother’s Day Cards and Personalized Name Cards. Christmas needs its own folder.
Happy Father’s Day to all the Dad’s out there!

The cards are great⦠simple, and guy-ish. Is that a word?
You werenβt tempted to break out some glitter?
Alex
June 10, 2013 at 1:18 pmNah, they’re totally guy-ish. No glitter. I’m saving that for Christmas cards this year just for you.

June 10, 2013 at 1:22 pmSigh… just so fabulous. And not only is right up there at the top of the husband/father list, he’s also a Steelers fan, which shoot him straight up into the stratosphere (occupied by a few other of my family members (-; )

June 13, 2013 at 10:29 amYou ever find half the time you’re like Look at Mommy and they put their hands over their face? She’s like that. Half the photos I have of her are of the top of her head.

June 11, 2013 at 7:29 pmOh man, that pic of your hubby and daughter is just so cute, my computer screen might explode. And I love your industrial approach to a Father’s Day card. My FIL and Dad would totally dig it.

June 13, 2013 at 10:31 amI have such a bad obsession with the industrial decor that it’s seeping into everything. If I make metal Xmas cards I apologize in advance.
