DIY Rustic Sieve Christmas Wreath

This sieve Christmas wreath wasn’t something I intentionally planned to make. You see, once upon a time, a long time ago, I picked up a strange round object at the Salvation Army. If you cook or bake in any way you’re going to look at me and go how the hell did you not know what a sieve is?

I looked at the shape of it and said “Hey, you need to be upcycled into something and used as decor.” vs “I can’t wait to use this in my kitchen.” I’m sorry. It’s how my brain works.

It sat in our old home in the basement. Then we moved and once again it sat in the basement. I was like what do I do with this? Then my friend Laurie over at Vin’yet Etc. shared a post about her Fall front porch decor where she had turned her sieve – the vintage wood sifter, because that’s what a sieve is – into this fantastic fall wreath.

I was like yes. That’s it. Christmas. Let’s do this.

Let’s make a Sieve Christmas wreath.

God knows I’ve used embroidery hoops in wreath projects before (see below), so of course this was like a wider embroidery hoop. Game on.

Move over pool noodles with duct tape, wire hangers and styrofoam wreath forms, we’re started a new trend.

Sieve (Wood Sifter) Wreaths. Thank you Laurie!

It went like this.

I sorted out some craft supplies and then decided against using the Merry Christmas sign that I had bought at Target…when Target was still in Canada (I still can’t talk about that).

Basically I went with a mix of anything rustic, cabin and Canadiana like. That mini tree I bought at Value Village but seriously they are sold everywhere. Real Canadian Superstore has tons.

STEP 1

First I attached a sled ornament I picked up Walmart.

I used a glue gun to glue the metal I bent on the side of the sled.

This was to flatten it so that it would attach more flush to the wire at the back and stay level.

STEP 2

Then I made some garland for the tree using twine and pom poms.

If you would like to subject yourself to a torturous Christmas craft, may I suggest the Pom Pom Ornament that never ends that I made last year.

Yes I do my crafts on my floor.

STEP 3

I added the red cardinal from the Dollar Tree, the skate ornaments are from Walmart, the fake Christmas greenery is from an old wreath but that’s sold just about everywhere.

The kids vetoed the reindeer from the Vintage Mason Jar Snow Globe craft in favor of the Polar Bear.

And it wound up like this.

And because sometimes I get really bored of taking photos against a white wall (despite the fact they give the best detail of the product)…

If you want to make your own, keep your eye out at thrift stores for a sieve/wood sifter or you can get one at Amazon as well. This one is 18″ in diameter.

I think my embroidery hoops are mad at me now.
